Workplace Stop Smoking service

Portsmouth Primary Care Trust have been delivering a free Stop Smoking service to groups and individuals since 2001. Groups are facilitated by NHS Smoking Cessation Advisors who provide all course information and certificates, advise would be quitters on treatments and encourage discussion and ongoing support between group members.

71% of smokers say they would like to give up, and according to Portsmouth Primary Care Trust, the Portsmouth Stop Smoking service has a success rate of 53%, higher than the national average of 51%.

With the aim of increasing staff welfare and productivity through a Health and Wellbeing initiative, your workplace provides the ideal setting to encourage more workers to quit smoking. Portsmouth City Council are setting an example by starting a group this August 2009 with the support of the Work Health and Wellbeing Hallmark.

If you want to set up a group in your workplace, contact your local NHS, or for more information on the Portsmouth service, contact Smoking Cessation Advisors Kay Blunden or Gayle Hoare at the PCT on 023 9236 9234.
